Vatican Confirms Stroke and Cardiocirculatory Collapse as Cause of Pope Francis' Death

Vatican City – Pope Francis died as a result of a stroke, followed by coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse, according to an official medical report released by the Vatican.
The confirmation came on Monday evening from Dr Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State, who certified the cause of death. The report was made public by the Holy See Press Office.
The late pontiff’s death was confirmed using electrocardiographic thanatography, a medical technique used to document death through heart activity monitoring.
Dr Arcangeli stated: “I hereby declare that the causes of death, to the best of my knowledge and judgment, are as stated above.”
The report also revealed that Pope Francis had a complex medical history, including acute respiratory failure due to multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases, hypertension, and Type II diabetes.
The Pope passed away at the Casa Santa Marta residence in the Vatican, where he had been living since the beginning of his papacy.
