Dear Brother Knights, Cadets and Friends,
Welcome to the official webpage of Commandery No. 527, Knights of St. John International, at Our Lady Star of the Sea (OLSS) Parish, Juba. As the Worthy President, I am honoured to lead such a dedicated Roman Catholic men’s fraternal organization that, through the actions and fellowship of its members, exemplifies the Roman Catholic theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity under a banner of Fraternity.
Our Commandery has a rich history, being the fourth oldest in Sierra Leone, and it continues to be a vital part of our OLSS parish community. We strive to live as ONE HAPPY FAMILY, which is our Parish motto, to support one another and actively participate in the life of the Church, ensuring that we embody the values that our patron, St. John, exemplified throughout his life.
As we move forward, our focus remains on fostering a spirit of unity among our membership and reaching out to those in need within our community. We are dedicated to engaging the younger generation, inviting them to join us in our mission, and encouraging them to take on leadership roles that will strengthen both our Commandery and our parish.
I invite you to sightsee our website, learn more about our initiatives, and discover how you can become involved in our efforts. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve and grow in faith as a community.
Thank you for your support and commitment and may God bless you all.
In Faith, Hope, and Charity under a banner of Fraternity.
Brief History of Commandery No. 527, Knights of St. John International (KSJI)
Commandery No. 527 is the fourth oldest commandery in Sierra Leone since the establishment of the Knights of St. John International in the country. The Commandery was founded in 1993, coinciding with the construction of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Brothers from St. Anthony’s Parish Commandery No. 458, residing in the Juba/Lumley area, came together to request permission from the Grand Board to institute the Order at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish. This request arose due to the growing size of the community and the increasing number of parishioners. In 1996, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Wuya, who was the parish priest at the time, significant efforts were made to ensure the Knights of St. John International was formally established in the parish. After the necessary arrangements were made, the Supreme Commandery granted the Order, and on June 25, 2000, Commandery No. 527 was officially installed at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish. The first charter of Commandery No. 527 was granted to:
Rev. Fr. Sylvester Wuya – Spiritual Adviser
Paul B. Bakarr – President
Aloysius Joe-Jackson – First Vice President

Edward K. Banya – Financial Secretary
